Electronic Mail Service

What Is It?
Verizon electronic messaging services consist of providing groups of Internet electronic mailboxes to government agencies. The attributes of a basic Internet electronic mailbox are:

	10MB of storage space
	Optional storage space up to 50MB
	Post Office Protocol v3 (POP3) client access
	Unique POP mailbox identifier
	Modifiable POP password
	Forwarding mail address list
	Autoresponder "out-of-office" notification
	Unique primary Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) mail address (Domain portion of primary SMTP mail address can contain the customer's registered domain identifier Primary SMTP mail address aliases–five secondary SMTP mail addresses per mailbox.)

All mailbox customers are given access and are authorized to use the SMTP relay server for sending outgoing messages.

What's It For?
Verizon offers a variety of Managed Electronic Messaging Services for government customers. These include offerings such as individual mailboxes for dial-up access subscribers or designing complex electronic messaging solutions for government organizations. In addition, Verizon's managed electronic services support interoperate with all LAN-based (local area network) e-mail systems (e.g., Lotus Notes) that our customers may currently be utilizing.

How You Benefit
Verizon possesses a state-of-the-art Internet messaging environment that provides highly reliable mailboxes. We use "high availability" platforms arranged in a redundant configuration to increase reliability in the managed electronic messaging services environment. This configuration provides access in the event one of a server failure, until a backup unit can be brought online or the failed server is recovered. Though momentarily reducing the overall capacity, Verizon redundancy measures maximize service dependability.

Similarly, software applications are replicated on multiple-server platforms to minimize single points of failure, provide load balancing and capacity sharing. Customers can benefit in numerous ways by using a managed messaging environment:
