What Is It? Enhanced IntelliLight Dedicated SONET Ring (E-IDSR) is a next generation Ethernet over SONET service. E-IDSR combines the ability to provide current, traditional SONET interfaces/circuits (both electrical and optical), with new, enhanced interfaces. In addition to the current service offering interfaces that are available with the IntelliLight Dedicated SONET Ring (IDSR) service, specific point-to-point Ethernet interfaces will be available with fractional levels of bandwidth, as well as the direct delivery of DS1s on OC12 and above rings.
What's It For? E-IDSR is designed for customers that require specific interfaces that are not currently available in the existing IDSR service. E-IDSR service is a perfect fit for the following applications:
Ethernet Interfaces In addition to the traditional SONET interfaces that are available with IDSR service, E-IDSR can provide one or more of the following Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) interfaces:
GigE-1: 1 STS (STS 1) |
GigE-3: 3 STSs (STS 3c) |
GigE-6: 6 STSs (STS 6c) |
GigE-9: 9 STSs (STS 9c) |
GigE-12: 12 STSs (STS 12c) |
GigE-24: 24 STSs (STS 24c) |
Note: All Ethernet interfaces are provided Point-to-Point, on ring or customer premise to customer premise.
Direct DS1 Access E-IDSR will have the ability to provide DS1 service directly into a single platform (OC-12, OC-48 or OC-192), without the need for an additional OC-3 SONET node in a Ring on Ring configuration.
E-IDSR allows for the natural progression from TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) or ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) shops to an IP (Internet Protocol) network model without giving up SONET protection.
How It Works E-IDSR service utilizes the existing SONET based multi-node self-healing ring architecture that exists today via IDSR. There is a minimum of 3 nodes required and minimally one node must be in a Verizon Central Office. The E-IDSR nodes residing on the customer's premise must be in a secured location. The fiber path or links interconnect each premise/POP and wire center node to form a complete ring. This design criterion provides customers with their own dedicated SONET ring that has no single point of failure (excluding the end points of any service riding the ring). The E-IDSR rings are available at OC12, OC48 and OC192 transmission rates.
